Debenhams, bad online shopping experience

I ordered some Christmas presents with Debenham’s early in December. Here is a rundown of my experience.
- The goods didn’t show for over a week, and then when they turned up, half the order was missing. With no email or phone call about the missing goods, and a dispatch email telling me they were on the way I thought something might be up!
- After speaking with customer services and altering my delivery address to my current work address, they assured me a delivery before christmas for the missing goods.
- Approaching the christmas break, still no delivery. I phone customer service (again), “oh they have been dispatched sir, and will arrive on or before the specified delivery date”. Although after checking the delivery address again on the phone, they had been dispatched to the wrong address and there is nothing they can do as the goods are apparently in transit.
- Great I thought, even thought they are being delivered to home (and I wont be there) at least there is a chance a neighbour might take delivery before Christmas.
- Christmas comes - no delivery
- Eventually delivery is recieved after Christmas
- I am still getting emails informing me my order has now been dispatched, and now were in the middle of January, and I have received the order.
- Phone customer services, the lady says like its completely normal, “dont worry sir, its just a mistake, just ignore the emails you keep getting”
For a massive UK company, this experience is unacceptable, I wonder how many people had a similar experience? I will never use Debenham’s online services again. In fact next year I might not shop online at all. With ever increasing numbers of people ordering online, can the courier networks cope? Do I want getting scammed to ever increasing numbers of internet fraudsters?
