Our Beautiful Capital
February 8th, 2007 | by Celeste |I woke up in North London this morning to a beautiful crisp sight of Winter in all it’s splendour. Within 1/2 an hour, rush hour traffic had managed to ruin the idyllic scene.
Lamp posts and wall corners displayed electric yellow sprays of ribbony streaks. Mud-covered buses gracefully drowned the pavement edge with sludge. The lulling funiture tones of sirens whined as I made my way along Calendonian road, forcing me to listen to my Ipod.
As I wade through unidentified pools of crap and grime along Edgware Road, it gets me thinking. …..The company I work for moves offices to Soho in two weeks. Thank god, I’m bored of Edgware Rd, for I believe James ‘next chapter’ Patterson described it best as ‘Little Lebanon’. It bears a constant reminder of why I didn’t like Tunisia. Is this possibly a sign of me getting older? It seems I grow less tolerant of foreigners and today’s youth community more every day.
I also hate the new trend I’m seeing in Islington and Angel. All (practically teenage) parent families seem to be fashioning a Pitbull. How lovely. The only area whereby after the condemning news reports recently, sales of the breed have actually risen. Sometimes, I wonder just how long I will survive living in London. The constant whine of sirens, the inability of the London Transport System, vast numbers of immigrants.
And so to conclude, my best plan this morning would have been to return to the warmth of the bed, holding that tiny sacred first image in my mind, and blissfully falling back into slumber. That is of course, before the work men start digging up that same patch of tarmac again……….
